Where to buy cheap UV lights suitable to observe samples on TLC
« on: January 15, 2009, 09:45:20 AM »
I went to the local electronics store to see if the UV light in the devices for testing money is the right wavelenght to observe on my TLC plate absorbance or fluorescence of samples...but it wasnt in the region 254-365nm...does anyone know where to buy the suitable ones for low cost...and maybe also how to wire these bulbs to the electricity...Thanks for the answers

You can also find small bulbs with short wavelength UV for curing UV-curable resins.  Edmund Scientific had these, and they'll sell to anyone.  Edmund Scientific isn't exactly cheap, but major lab equipment manufacturer's aren't either, and often won't sell to "citizen chemists."
Hey, I'm not judging.  I just like to shoot straight.  I'm a man of science.
