DNA, RNA and protein
« on: January 17, 2009, 09:55:01 AM »
I got a question.
Is DNA or RNA a type of protein?

Well, I actually think they are not, as they are nucleic acid. but my classmtes said they are.

Please give me a clue.

I know they are not..

If you'd like some confirmation, then I'd say you have it correct.  Sometimes, it's hard to trust your own instincts.  But when you're in a situation like this, it's important to ask the other person, the criteria they're using for their point of view.  They may have nothing to say except, "Heard it online somewhere," or "Teacher says so," or "We're done with that, and we're moving on, " or some such foo.  At least you know what sort of person you're dealing with, in that situation.
Hey, I'm not judging.  I just like to shoot straight.  I'm a man of science.

You are correct.  DNA and RNA are nucleic acids, not proteins.  Proteins are polymers of amino acids whereas DNA and RNA are polymers of nucleotides.

yups i agree with yggdrasil...DNA and RNA are the polymers of nucleotides....because in proteins structure u have amino groups and carboxyl groups ..in between them hydrocarbon chain is present..while if u see DNA and RNA structure ..so ask your fellows ...wat they found common in proteins and DNA and RNA structure same...

Yeah! I know I'm right. I know what protein is composed of..and the definition of the conformation of DNA and RNA

Thanks you three for confirmation~~

Even though they are different molecules, there IS a connection between

DNA, (m)RNA and proteins

Do you know what that connection is?
