neutralisation reactions
« on: April 14, 2005, 10:28:54 PM »
I'm having some trouble with a couple of questions.  I know that it's easy but my mind doesn't want to co-operate.

The question is Determine the salt that is produced by the following reactions:
1.  KOH and CH3COOH.

My tentative answer KCH3COO + H20??

2.  NH3 and HIO

My (again tentative) answer NH4IO

Thanks

1. yes but the salt is normally written as CH3COOK to reflect the negative charge of the anion is localised on the oxygen atom.

2. correct

Thanks so much!  I'm quite surprised that I was somewhat correct.
