Stupid Laundry Detergent...
« on: February 08, 2009, 10:23:49 PM »
We bought the Surf Spring Fresh powdered laundry detergent.  We wash on cold/cold, perm press cycle.

Stupid detergent won't dissolve all the way in the water.  After the washer is done, there's little powdered specks all over our clothes.

I don't want to wash in hot water, and I'm using less detergent per load (but that just means the stupid 750-load* box lasts longer.

What do I do?

*well... it seems like it at least.  the thing is huge.

Warm instead of hot wash?
Make a solution of it up first in hot water and pour that in (it might crash out, but it might not)?
Add acid and see if it is more soluble? Add base and see if it is more soluble?

Get new laundry detergent?

yes.  as soon as we're done with the 5,000 loads that are left, that's exactly what we'll be doing.  Maybe I'll take it up in hot water and add it to the washer that way.

I have a simple trick to fix this problem. I let the water start and pour the dry soap in first and let the water go for a minute or two. I then place my clothes into the laundry machine.

On a side note, azmanam please read your UNC email. I sent you something earlier today.

Oh. I thought of that...  It practically starts into the agitation cycle before I add the clothes.  No luck.  Even when I cut the recommended amount of detergent in half or more, it still doesn't dissolve.  Well, at least something is getting agitated.

... will respond when i get to campus later today.

I also hold the cup of soap under the water source and let that help dissolve the soap.
