NH3 is polar, so would it be BrCH2CH2CH3?

I guess it comes down to which is more polar, 1-bromopentane or methanol. I think that the hydroxyl group would be much more polar than the bromine halogen hanging off the pentane, but I'm not certain.

Anyone else? I was leaning with BrCH2CH2CH3 because I figured since CH3OH had an H acceptor it wouldn't be as good as BrCH2CH2CH3

sublime4510, you are right, MeOH is the best since it polar. AWK, you are right too, ammonia reacts with bromoalkanes and they are not as polar as MeOH.
