HCL Covalent Bond.
« on: February 22, 2009, 03:10:22 AM »
why is HCL covalently bonded? Why is CH4 covalently bonded?
How do you classify between a covalent bond and an ionic bond?
Please give some examples.

Astrokel's response is appropriate, this is the type of question designed as much to assess your literature (textbook) searching and comprehension skills  as much as getting the answer right. If we "spoon feed" you an answer we are preventing you from acquiring the skills you need to progress in future.

Hit the books and put some effort in also, was the bit in bold typed correctly?

"why is HCL covalently ??? bonded? Why is CH4 covalently bonded?
How do you classify between a covalent bond and an ionic bond?

Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

If I were you, I'd memorize a lot of common ions. This is how I got it at first. In order to REALLY understand it though, they're right, you will have to research it. I'll give you a hint, it has to do with how electrons are placed :P
