Concentration of acetic acid
« on: May 09, 2005, 07:25:02 PM »
Hi,

Do you know what factors can affect the concentration of acetic acid? Not like adding a base or anything, but just natural factors.

We have researched how to find the concentration of the acid before and after the experiment has taken place through titration, but there is no information that we could find relating to the factors that can alter the concentration.

Any help that you could give us is appreciated.

what experiment are you talking about?

If you mean increasing the solubility of acetic acid, you could increase the temperature.

Also, water becomes less dense as it gets heated, so if you increase temperature then the volume would slightly increase, too. therefore, n/L (molarity) would be smaller.

I doubt, however, that my explanation is what you're looking for.  Explain what you mean by "the experiment" and "natural factors".

what are you titrating against acetic acid?

my only guess is a base... but u said no bases :/

if u're adding a solution to acetic acid for your experiment, wouldnt it be "unnatural"?

Some bacteria can live in diluted acetic acid its  lowering concentration after some time.
