Carbon Dioxide paper test?
« on: February 28, 2009, 07:19:13 PM »
Can someone please tell me if there is anyway to detect carbon dioxide from an infants mouth using some form of litmus paper or a specially coated paper.

I have been told that paper coated with lime can detect carbon dioxide.

My aim is to have the paper attached to a sensor and when detecting carbon dioxide turn colour and activate an alarm.

Kind regards

Hrm ... tricky.  Moistened paper my react with exhaled CO2, but detecting it seems a little complicated to me.  Then, you want to detect the small amounts generated, and released by an infant, using a detector that's mounted, somewhere close enough to work as a detector, yet presumably, out of the infant's reach?  Presumably you're aware that CO2 is normal in exhaled gasses, so I guess you want an indicator for a lack of CO2.  This seems like a very complicated way of detecting ... what?
Hey, I'm not judging.  I just like to shoot straight.  I'm a man of science.
