Help with Pchem again
« on: February 27, 2009, 02:09:00 AM »
.Determine rmp, the most probably distance of the electron from the nucleus, for an electron in a 2s orbital of a hydrogen atom.  [Hint: there is only one answer.  If you think there should be more, draw a picture of the radial distribution function for the 2s orbital, and you will see why there is only one.

THat is my question I need help with. I am assuming I use the hydrogenic radial ave fucntion for the 2s and then noting that the Probability is equal to          P9r) = r^2R9r)^2 and to find the distance i take the derivative the appropriate radial wavefunciton but i cant get the right answer of 5.2A0 can anyone help and work the problem out and show me I keep getting something that i cant simply to 5.2a can anyone help
