Which bond is more polar? Why?
« on: March 18, 2009, 04:28:36 PM »
Hi! So ok, I'm doing grade 12 chem by myself and the question they are asking is: Which of these bonds is most polar amd which is least: S-O, Cl-Cl, or Cl-O? and it says to justify my answer, and I'm clueless! Help, please.

Thank you! :)

The S-O bond is most polar as O has comparatively higher electronegativity than Sulphur due to its smaller size. The Cl-Cl bond is the least polar.
Hence the order must be: S-O>Cl-O>Cl-Cl
