Chemical Education in scholls
« on: March 18, 2009, 08:11:07 PM »
Hello to all, im new in the Forum and im not sure this is the right topic to talk about but as the description says:

"Talk about the current state of Chemical Education. What needs to be improved and what needs to be added. All views welcomed."

So,im willing to know and ask what is the situation of chemistry education in the scholls in USA,if the kids and teenagers really get interest in the major or if they just hate it,and how is exactly the classes (if teachers do alot of experiments,or if they go more for the theory only). As you can see in my bad english,im not american,i live in Brazil and im studying to be a chemistry teacher,so im involved in this themes everyday. Also wish to know where i can get info about projects related to education there,we write alot here and im really curious to read some.
I have a Chemistry comic project for scholls here called "Super Chemical", wich had good acceptance between studients. The art is Japanese comic style and we have an english version:

Thats it,wanna hear about some of your scholl experiences as a teacher or as an studient,or projects and ideas you all have, and thoughts about the future of chemistry education, thanks for the space and sorry for my bad english.

You need to provide a link to the full English comic strip. It looks great! :)
Most Common Suggestions I Make on the Forums.
1. Start by writing a balanced chemical equation.
2. Don't confuse thermodynamic stability with chemical reactivity.
3. Forum Supports LaTex

Thanks alot for the comment, the first comic talks about the "chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) destroying the ozone" and how people actually can change it,well i dont think is much of a problem now but it was some years ago,the idea is to mix chemistry with reality so maybe studients get interest in the major, but im not here to talk about my projects,i wanna hear yours people!  Any toughts or ideas,or info about chemical education.

Not yet cause we wanna make some more numbers to be able to make an website for it. Every number takes ALOT of work to be done, cause the number of pages and the fact the guy who draws is always busy. When i got some free time i'll upload the first number.
