Iodination of acetone lab HELP
« on: March 27, 2009, 01:47:21 AM »
hey, I have a lab report due for chemistry. Basically, we did the iodination of acetone. Below is the data:

                     Iodine   Hydrochloric acid   Acetone   TIME
Mixture 1   Trial 1   10 ml    10 ml      10 ml                48 sec.
Mixture 2   Trial 1   5 ml    10 ml      10 ml                26 sec.
Mixture 3   Trial 1   10 ml  5 ml               10 ml             98 sec
Mixture 4   Trial 1   10 ml  10 ml      5 ml             105 sec
Mixture 1   Trial 1   10 ml    10 ml      10 ml             47 sec
Mixture 2   Trial 1   5 ml    10 ml      10 ml             27 sec
Mixture 3   Trial 1   10 ml     5 ml       10 ml             94 sec
Mixture 4   Trial 1   10 ml  10 ml      5 ml             108 sec

      Iodine   Hydrochloric acid   Acetone   TIME
Mixture 1   Trial 1   0.19 mol   0.33 mol   0.136 mol   48 sec.
Mixture 2   Trial 1   0.095 mol   0.33 mol   0.136 mol   26 sec.
Mixture 3   Trial 1   0.19 mol   0.165 mol   0.136 mol   98 sec
Mixture 4   Trial 1   0.19 mol   0.33 mol   0.068 mol   105 sec
Mixture 1   Trial 1   0.19 mol   0.33 mol   0.136 mol   47 sec
Mixture 2   Trial 1   0.095 mol   0.33 mol   0.136 mol   27 sec
Mixture 3   Trial 1   0.19 mol   0.165 mol   0.136 mol   94 sec
Mixture 4   Trial 1   0.19 mol   0.33 mol   0.068 mol   108 sec

My first question is: How do I find the time in terms of mol/L * seconds? Also, how do I find the rate order and rate constant?

Thanks
