Fuel used in real life.
« on: March 31, 2009, 11:04:06 PM »
Through an experiment at school, we have concluded that Candle wax has a higher heat of combustion than ethanol. so my question is, how come we have cars that run on ethanol (alcohol) fuels, but not candle wax fuels? Is it because candle wax is more expensive??

In addition to the fact that candle wax is a solid, for the same reason we don't use rocket fuel - it's difficult to control.

Can you use what you know (or can quickly look up) about how an automobile engine works, to see what problems solid paraffin wax would hold.  You can probably find several things wrong, (and if you want to talk costs, you can look that up too), and use them all to write a good discussion your teaher will like.  Keep some in the back of your head too, so you can write them on the exam, when no one else has heard them yet, for bonus points.
Hey, I'm not judging.  I just like to shoot straight.  I'm a man of science.
