Reactivity of metal

Why is that some Transition metals don't tarnish easily (like Au) but others tarnish fairly easly (Fe). All the transition metals have the same number of outer electrons.

My question is why do some metals tarnish faster than others?

Also this excludes I and III to keep it simple.

Yes, I am reffering to the formation of oxides. I should have made that clear in the beggining. Sorry for not making it clear.
