Cyclic acetal formation from diol mechanism
« on: April 25, 2009, 05:46:24 PM »
Hi,

Can someone post a link to a website that details the mechanism for the formation of a cyclic acetal from a 1,2-diol? I tried googling it, but I cannot find anything. I'm trying to write a mechanism of hydrobenzoin reacting with acetone to give a cyclic acetal.

Thanks.

You should be able to relate an acyclic acetal formation mechanism to a cyclic acetal formation mechanism, no?
