Psychrometric Chart - Syngas
« on: April 26, 2009, 08:15:25 AM »
Dear All,

I have some problem determining the moisture content of syngas at the outlet of my venturi scrubber. The syngas contains 2 -3% of H2O at inlet. Things would be so easy if the treated gas is air. We could use some help from Psychrometric Chart to define the moisture content of the air. But what about syngas? Is there anyone have experience or know how to solve this problem.

I'd be very grateful for any response here.

thank you
best regards,

bernath

Hi bernath,

One possible option is to purge a known volume of syngas through a sample of methanol. Titrate the concentration of water before and after syngas exposure, and you now have your concentration of water.

I hope this helps,

Eugene

Dear Eugene,

Thank you for the reply.

Actually I'm kind of needing the method that can be calculated just by paper and hand held calculator. Thank you anyway...

What is the pressure of syn gas in your case.
Usually syn gas is at very high pressure where ideal gas laws do not apply.
So you need to consider the activity coefficient if you want to calculate theoretically.
Otherwise, Eugene has suggested a very good & simplest method, but doing so with very hgih pressure gas may be bit risky.

Dear technologist,

My syngas is at atmospheric condition. Our gasifier is designed to operate at atmospehric condition, the ideal gas law is therefore still applicable to us.

Well, it certainly will be a lot easier when you don't have to consider the activity, yet still I struggle to determine the moisture content. Your suggestion is kindly welcomed here.

thank you

bernath
