Explaining gas laws and battery chem through a toy
« on: April 26, 2009, 05:46:29 PM »
hey guys, I have a small report to write for Chem about the gas laws (boyle, charles, etc.) and battery chemistry through an RC blimp (radio-controlled blimp). I am fairly new to chemistry (not in honors or AP). any advice how I should go about doing this? if anyone knows a toy that is easier to explain, please suggest 'em.

Well, lets start with the gas laws.  What do you know about them?  How would they work in a toy blimp?  I've never seen a toy blimp, so we'll just concentrate on real blimps, and think small.

so far we learned about boyles, charles, lussac's law. helium works best because it's non-flammable and is lighter than air. and I know that lussac himself learned from experimenting on hot-air balloons, so I guess his formula applies to them? P1/T1 = P2/T2. i'm assuming pressure stays constant because blimps pretty much stay at the same height most of the time.

Do you have the combined gas law equation handy?

yeah, I know both combined gas law and the ideal gas law. Would it be better to just talk about those two rather than the first three I mentioned?
