seperation of methanol from water
« on: April 28, 2009, 03:30:26 PM »
Hi everyone

My name is Angela
Can someone help me with his problem,I already did the first part of the question but i got stuck after that.
I am given the feed to the column is 14460kg/hr(methanol) and 10440kg/hr(water)
99mole%methanol at top and 99mole%steam at bottom
The feed temperature is 20⁰C
I am give a VLE table which i plotted i don't know how to post it yet
I used the Antione equation to get the k values I don't know if i got it right because the temperature i used is the 1 for methanol at the boiling point
I plotted the graph i ended up getting  13 theoretical stages I get stuck there i cant get to point 2 i feel like i don't have enough information.
If any one can help i would really appreciate it
Thanks

1 Determine the theoretical number of stages at a various recycle ratios and recommend what ratio is required
2 make estimate of the real number of stages by evaluating the Murphree efficiency of the points in the column
3 design suitable sieve plates for condition at the top and bottom of the column
4 Design a suitable condenser and re-boiler for the distillation column
