percentage composition of alloys...
« on: April 30, 2009, 07:03:34 PM »
Can someone please explain to me how to find the percentage composition of alloys... is it similar to finding the percentage composition normally?

eg: an alloy used in aircrafts consists of Al, Cu and Mg. An 11.34g sample of the alloy was treated with alkali to disolve the Al. Leaving a residue of mass 2.73g. This residue was then treated with dilute HCl to disolve the Mg. The remaining residue has a mass of 0.90g. Calculate the % composition of the alloy.

can anyone help me please? ???

What was the final resiude?

How much of Al was dissolved in NaOH?

How much of Mg was dissolved in HCl?
