pH of a strong acid.
« on: May 05, 2009, 04:58:00 PM »
My chemistry book shows that a 1M solution of HCl has a H+ ion concentration of 1X10^0. A 0.1 M solution has a H+ concentration of 1X10^-1. What would the concentration be if I had a 2M solution? I thought the ion concentration had to be less than 1X10^0?

No. And pH can be negative.

I think you are saying that a 10M solution of HCl would have a pH of -1?

Hmmm.  Learn something new every day.

Something like that. Although it is even more complicated in reality  :o
