what is a metal which reacts with cold sodium hydroxide solution but not with cold water?

a water insoluble compound that dissolves in both sodium hydroxide and ammonia solutions?

a transition metal oxide catalyst used in the commercial production of sulfuric acid?

please help. im lost :-\

i tried substituting elements in but i simply dont know where to start... i have no text book and cant find any relevant help... perhaps a website or something which will help?? :-[
