« on: May 28, 2005, 06:39:35 AM »
hello i have two question i need help : :-X

1) Explain why the polarity os a solute is an important criterion in determining the partitioning of that solute between two immiscible solvents?

2) If you do not know which layer is on top ( and you are in a room devoid of reference sources), how would you determine which layer was on top?

Thx Alot

1. Polar and nonpolar liquids don't mix. A polar substance has an affinity for the polar liquid and a nonpolar - for a nonpolar liquid.

2. Density of the liquid.
