Gold(III) acetate
« on: June 30, 2009, 07:50:23 AM »

Does anyone know in which solvent gold(III) acetate is well dissolved? I got its MSDS data sheet but it is sligthly soluble in water.

Since acetate is alcohol.. in any chance.. could it be dissolved in some alcohol (e.g.: methanol or ethanol)?

Cheers

Since acetate is alcohol.

No, acetate is a salt of acetic acid.

Working in water, you can change pH conditions in order to improve dissolution, and/or add a chelating agent... It depends on what you have to do with that solution.
I don't think that ethanol or methanol would be better solvents.

Acetonitrile works splendid.

In any case, keep it out of the light.
Neither flask nor beaker.
