e1 / e2 mechanisms
« on: July 19, 2009, 05:56:18 PM »
I've been studying an organic book over the summer before actually taking organic chemistry and I just arrived on the e1 / e2 mechanism chapter. the problem is that the book wants me to get all the information from my class notes and I obviously don't have any at this point, lol.

so my question is:

what constitutes an e1 / e2 mechanism
is there a good website to find a basic e1 and e2 mechanism just to get me on my feet.

thanks for the help

Knowing why you got a question wrong is better than knowing that you got a question right.

Also, when studying, keep in mind that the e1 mechanism is actually a 2-step mechanism and the e2 mechanism is a ONE step mechanism.

When thinking about E2, think about the inversion of an umbrella during a strong wind

First part is true, but for the second statement, you are thinking of SN2.
