CN- & O2+
Which one has a higher bond strength?

If we draw the molecular orbitals of these two ions, both bond orders are 2.5, so, how do we know which one is stronger?

homolytic or heterolytic bond clevage?
Most Common Suggestions I Make on the Forums.
1. Start by writing a balanced chemical equation.
2. Don't confuse thermodynamic stability with chemical reactivity.
3. Forum Supports LaTex

I don't know what you mean.

CN- may be derived from heterolytic bond cleavage from HCN.
O2+ is just ionization of O2.

Mitch is referring to the C-N or O-O bond.

When there is a difference in electronegativities, is there a stronger or weaker bond?

I see.

Homolytic cleavage!
