How would you neutralize a base?  Can you think of any other neutralization reactions?  Better yet, what is a neutralization reaction?

lol I guess it was a trick question becasue my teacher said if you find out how to neturalize it you get extra credit.

BTW: neutralization reaction:The reaction of an acid with a base to form water and a salt.

But I still need more information to write about magnesium hydroxide.  :1eye: :1eye:

Take an evening or weekend day and go to a local university chemistry library.  Heck, your high school may even have a few of these resources.  Look up magnesium hydroxide in the following references:

The Merck Index
Kirk-Othmer Encyclopedia of Chemical Technology
The CRC Handbook of Chemistry and Physics (more quantitative data)
Lange's Handbook of Chemistry (also more quantitative)

You can also check out some more advanced inorganic chemistry texts, like:

Chemistry of the Elements, Greendoow & Earnshaw, Eds.
Advanced Inorganic Chemistry, F.A. Cotton

These will provide information ad nauseum about Mg(OH)2

I have not really indepthly researched Mg(OH)2,  but  I thought if:

Mg(OH)2  +  H2SO4 -->  MgSO4 +  2H2O.

And magnesium sulfate is a salt that is used for some medicinal purposes.

here is a link to info on  MgSO4.

below are some links on Mg(OH)2

below is a MSDS on Mg(OH)2.  should be helpful
