Buffer recipes
« on: June 13, 2005, 10:16:52 AM »
Hey everyone, I am a highschool senior doing some biomed research at Florida Atlantic University and I was wondering:

I sit possible to make pH 11, 12, and 13 buffers from the same species?
If yes, then which species? cuz I checked a buffer calculator website and I couldn'y seem to find a buffer that had the range of 11-13.

Thanks so much!

For low/high pH instead of buffers use just solution of strong acid/base.
ChemBuddy chemical calculators - stoichiometry, pH, concentration, buffer preparation, titrations.info

Most organisms use enzymes that would not function at the pH range.  That is why most buffers can be found at pH ranges ~ pH 5 - 9

Unless you are digesting or doing something to the tissue or molecules.
