TO FIND THE RELATIVE MOLECULAR MASS OF A COMPOUND ON A MASS SPECTRUM IS IT THE ONE WITH THE HIGHEST PEAK OR THE ONE FURTHEST TO THE RIGHT??? I HAVE LOOKED ON THE INTERNET BUT NOTHING IS CLEAR....

HELP I KNOW ITS NOT DIFFICULT BUT I JUST NEED IT VALIDATED BEFORE I CAN DO IT... WONT TAKE LONG TO REPLY :(

its usually the last peak, but u have to be careful cuz sometimes the last peak will be the one with the isotope (sometimes called m+1 peak.  but anyway the for molecular mass its the M+ peak which is the last one with significant absorbance...usually the m+1 or m+2 peaks have low absorbance

yes, like sometimes there will be carbon-13 in an organic molecule instead of carbon-12

It's the furthest to the right. Run a standard to confrim.
Most Common Suggestions I Make on the Forums.
1. Start by writing a balanced chemical equation.
2. Don't confuse thermodynamic stability with chemical reactivity.

it is a substitute for using a phrase that the rules suggested you not use
