What is the initial rate of reaction
« on: September 29, 2009, 04:22:13 PM »
The following set of data was obtained by the method of initial rates for the reaction:

3A + 2B --> Products

What is the initial rate when [A]intitial = 0.40 M and initial = 0.10 M?

Exp--------[A]initial M----------------------initial, M--------------Initial Rate, Moles per liter per second
1-----------0.10--------------------------------0.10------------------4.0E-4
2-----------0.20--------------------------------0.30------------------4.8E-3
3-----------0.30--------------------------------0.10------------------3.6E-3

  a. 1.6 x 10-4 M x s-1
  b. 3.4 x 10-3 M x s-1
  c. 1.2 x 10-3 M x s-1
  d. 4.8 x 10-4 M x s-1
  e. 6.4 x 10-3 M x s-1

I got A as my answer.

What happens when [A] increases 3-fold? Compare runs 1 and 3

The rate increases by 3.

I got 1.6 x 10^-4 M x s-1
