Sulfuric acid rather than hydrochloric
« on: June 14, 2005, 09:31:42 PM »
Why is sulfuric acid used to catalyze the dehydration of alcohols rather than hydrochloric acid?  Does it have anything to do with the differing strengths of the acids?
Thanks

One is nucleophilic and one is not. Which one could it be?
