DNA
« on: October 27, 2009, 08:33:50 AM »
Hello All,
I am trying to figure out the timeline of the Discovery that DNA is the Genetic material & Discovery of the chemical Structure of DNA.

I have 1943 as first direct evidence emerged for DNA as the bearer of genetic information( Oswald Avery and his colleagues, working at the Rockefeller Institute, discovered that DNA taken from a virulent (disease-causing) strain of the bacterium Streptococcus pneumonae permanently transformed a non-virulent (or inactive) form of the organism into a virulent form)

And in 1953 American biologist James  Watson and Francis Crick developed a model of the structure of DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid). DNA is found in the nucleus of each cell and is responsible for the passing of genetic traits from parents to children

Any help would be appreciated

Here are a couple links related to DNA discoveries:

DNA Science (This is specified to specific periods) <-- Probably the best one
