you can dry the alcohol and try your damn hardest to make the ethoxide.
You could also react the ethanol with HBr Sulfuric acid as a dehydrating adgent, to make bromoethane (this is not the best way to make bromoethane, generally you'd use white phosphrus and bromine) then make the gringard, thats all I can come up with  ;D

You need to get some chemicals - check out walmart for various things...
 Sodium Bisulfate is possibly the best friend of the beginner chemist for it is a strong acid and allows for you to make other acids from salts, and it is dirt cheap as a swimming pool chemical.
And don't forget about things such as baking soda, vinegar, etc.

For instance with ethanol, sodium acetate, and sodium bisulfate I believe it is very possible to make Ethyl acetate - a nice non-polar solvent.
