Problem with Aromatic Amines
« on: November 17, 2009, 08:06:21 PM »
Im new here and I dont know if someone already asked about that, Im not sure neither if Im posting on the right forum, or this should be in Organic Chemistry. Anyways here it goes my problem:

- In the preparation of phenylamine a reflux condenser is used:
a) Why is it used during the addition of HCl?
b) Why is not necessary during the heatin on a water bath?
c) Why is NaOH(aq) added in the end of the solution?

Im stuck in those questions and I have to hand over this assignment tomorrow :S

If someone has the book Advanced Chemistry by Michael Clugston and Rosalind Flemming these questions are on page 497

- In the preparation of phenylamine

From what? Reagents? Conditions? You haven't given enough information for us to help you.

In reality, thats all the given info, :S the only difference is that they put a picture of the apparatus used.

I will try to put the picture tomorrow or later on this week, but none has the book that I mentioned?
