Question about nitrosoamines, urgent
« on: December 13, 2009, 05:04:08 PM »
Hi guys, I'm new to this forum, would be able to answer my questions

I'm doing a project on Dimethylnitrosamine, and i'm trying to find out whether it bioaccumulates or not. Many websites say that it does not, however
not the reason why it does not bioaccumulate. Any help would be appreciated very much!!

My educated guess would be that in order to bioaccumulate it would need to be fat soluble.  Nitrosamines are water soluble.

You might find it called nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) instead of dimethylnitrosamine.

There was a furry of research on nitrosamines in cosmetics, rubber, and plastics quite a few years ago.  NDMA was considered a carcinogen.  I think the current FDA regulations still limit the amount that can be present.

Some of that carcinogen literature may still be present in libraries.  It might give you a starting point in your research.

Good luck.
