Emission Spectrum of Hydrogen from a Hydrogen dischange lamp.
« on: December 09, 2009, 04:07:00 PM »
I observe the emission lines of a H discharge lamp and i see sharp lines in the spectrum. But i also see a more "diffuse" series of lines in the red/orange part of the spectrum.

Why is it that there seems to be " diffuse" series of lines in the red/orange part of the spectrum.

Is it something to do with the molecular H2, and the different types of energy of a molecule can have compared to an atom?

Thanks.

I know why there are single lines, but not sure about the diffusion of lines in the red/orange region. Interesting question through...Sorry.
