how to determine acid value for diethyl oxalate
« on: July 08, 2005, 11:55:36 PM »
Hi,
We have attempted to determine the acid value of diethyl oxalate with the common NaOH solution titration method, but failed. It seems that the diethyl oxalate got hydrolysed in situ and the volume of NaOH solution used is way too large.
Is there a more suitable method???

Thanks a lot for helping!

Diethyl oxalate decomposes in water to form oxalic acid and ethanol...so it would be difficult to determine the acid value (by which I assume you mean pKa)
