Identification of ortho and meta directing groups
« on: January 09, 2010, 11:35:11 AM »
How to identify whether a group is ortho or meta directing group?
For example :
Obtain the main product due to nitration of the compound Ph-COO-Ph.

Why don't you try writing logical resonating structures of the compound that you have in hand. That way, you can easily see where there is greater electron density, etc, etc..
