standard suitability check

anyone have any idea of what one is in terms of checking purity of drugs, I have searched with no end results.

Can you clarify the question?  There is an enitre quality assurance group at any pharma company that has to oversee a battery of tests for drug purity.  Furthermore, it depends on whether you are looking for the purity of drug substance or drug product.
