Check my work: Moles Reacting
« on: January 24, 2010, 06:03:17 PM »
Calculate the number of moles of potassium permanganate reacting with sodium oxalate

Equation: 16H+ + 2MnO4- + 5C2O4 --> 2Mn + 10CO2 + 8H2O

I calculated the moles of potassium permanganate 0.0095 and then I multiplied it by 2 and divided by 5 the mole bridge, is this correct? 2MnO4 / 5 C2O4??

dont know where u got 0.0095 from but ill assume its right

so u have

0.0095 moles of KMnO4 x 2 moles of KMnO4 / 5 moles of Na2C2O4 ---> does tht seem right?

no because then u get an answer with units moles of KMnO4^2/moles of Na2C2O4

u have to multiply by 5 and divide by 2 to get the right answer. Check units in case u dont believe me
