stickiest compound question
« on: February 03, 2010, 05:01:31 PM »
Hello
I have no knowledge of chemistry - but I I am trying to find out what is the most stickiest compound available.

I have to find an applicable substance that can stick to a rubber conveyor (a conveyor belt) that bonds instantly and is non-toxic.

Is there such a compound? Hope this is the right forum,

Or if you could point me in the right direction.
thanks!

I also have been on a similar quest and i have thus far come across two compounds.

The component that allows mussels to stick to anything and under water no less is a chemical called Dopa, but i have come to learn that this is not a readily available compound, considering what it precursors ;D.

Secondly, a bacteria called Caulobacter crescentus is being called the strongest substance known (c. 2006).

These are the two i have been looking at and seem promising, but there doesn't seem to be any commercially available water based glue including either of these or anything close.  Sorry i wasn't any help, just telling you where i have been.

Hi
Thanks for the lead.

You're correct - barnacles/mollosks etc. have that substance but short of harvesting these on a farm there isn't anything available I have seen.

Hopefully there is a similar substance someone knows of.
