organic reaction mechanism problem?

I have a simple elimentary reaction but dont know why the the c with lonepair attacked the carbon and not the +vely charged nitrogen?
M y second reaction how am I supposed to know the reaction site how do I know where will It attack?

First reaction : What happens when N is attacked? Look at the product. Is it stable?

Second reaction : Which site do you think is the most vulnerable to be attacked by a nucleophile? (OH- in this case) And why?

thanks dude I acted so dumb how could I exceed the octet of nitronen in the first case!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
