Dissociation of salts and # of ions
« on: March 01, 2010, 11:53:18 AM »
Hi guys.  I was wondering if the following dissociations were correct:

Quote
NaCl --> Na+ + Cl-
NaH2PO4 --> Na+ H2PO4-
Na2HPO4 --> 2Na+ + H2PO4-

Also, if I wanted to find out the number of sodium and chloride ions in a 150mM NaCl solution I would do the following

Quote
150E-3 * 6.02E23

Is this the total number of Na and Cl ions (divide by 2 to get individual number of Na and of Cl ions)?  Or is the answer the number for one species and I have to multiply 2 to get the total?  Thanks for the help.
