Why are my order of reaction calculations so different?
« on: March 06, 2010, 03:28:28 AM »
I have calculated and double-checked my order of reaction calculations. However, they seem to vary even though I've done it in a specific order: Experiment 1/2, 2/3, 3/4 etc.

Some of them exhibit values of 1.04 whilst others a small .457. Could anyone suggest any reasons for this? This would gratefully benefit me. Thanks.

Could you post more about your experiments?  Are you using different techniques to find the order of reaction for one specific reaction or are these orders for different reactions.  1.04 sounds normal to me; it is really close to 1, but you are right 0.457 is small.  It could be due to experimental error; I have got reaction orders that were less than but close enough to one (ex. 0.7 or 0.8)
