Ammonia (aq) into Magnesium Nitrate?
« on: March 22, 2010, 09:46:48 PM »
What happens if you pour aqueous ammonia into a solution of magnesium nitrate?

I know that NH3 forms NH4OH in solution, but what happens after that?

When writing out the equation, Mg(OH)2 is formed (along with NH4(NO3) which is soluble), but from what I can tell, that's only "slightly soluble". Does anyone know if it ends up precipitating?
