Mg NMR - environments at different temperatures
« on: April 17, 2010, 07:58:37 PM »
The 25Mg NMR on EtMgBr in toluene shows that the is only one Mg environment at 70 degrees, but there are 3 at room temperature. Why is this? At the higher temperature there is coalescence to a single signal, but how does it have anything to do with the temperature dependence of the Schlenk equilibrium?

Think on how many species are present in each case. Obviously Schlenk equilibrium is the key.
