The question is:

In 3 steps, how is ethanol converted to propanone??

1. Oxidation to ethanal
2. Grignard reaction of ethanal with CH3MgI
3. Oxidation of 2-propanol to propanone

1. Oxidation of ethanol to acetic acid.
2.EDCI coupling to make Weinreb amide.
3.Same as above: MeMgI.
