Hi

Can anyone tell me how (weak benzoic acid) ionisable group on a drug molecule influence its its partition coefficient?

I think what happens that ionisable group increase water solubility and decrease lipid solubility which decrease the partition coefficient value.

Hi, I don't have a massive experience with partition coefficients but from my understanding adding in hydrophilic groups will increase it as its water solubility will obviously increase. In the future, you could try using an online logP (log Partition Coefficient) calculator like at http://www.molinspiration.com/cgi-bin/properties. Just draw the structure and click calculate properties and look at the miLogP value.
