Hello... Could you please try and answer this question.

Is it safe to use polyurethane foam and an elastomeric latex coating only as hot tub cover? I made this cover and it works great, Im just afraid of contimenation from the checmicals, dichloride and the hot water that it covers for hours at a time until I use it? I tried covering it with fabric, but the sun dried it out and it weathered and mildewed quickly. I live in the South Florida. Should I have it covered with a vinyl like most are sold in Spa Stores?

Could there be a skin, cancer, biohazard waiting to happen? Thanks for you expert advice... Sincerely, Paul Donahue

polyurethane will probably degrade over time outside.  It could dust off into the hot tub.  There probably are not many health concerns, based on PU foam is used in bedding, carpet cushion, seat cushion, car parts, etc.
