Glove Box
« on: July 06, 2010, 02:11:19 PM »
Hi!
I purchased small quantities of a hydrogenation catalyst from one of the major suppliers. It is a solid (50 mg) and is stored in a small glass package. It is air-sensitive and have to handle it in a glove box.
I am an organic PhD student I am not used to work in glove boxes. Therefore, I talked to a colleague from the inorganic department. He recommends to transfer the catalyst in a Schlenck tube and put vacuum on it and then insert it in a glove box. I remember from my chemical studies years ago, that one can also open the supplier's glass package slightly, so that the glas will not break in the vacuum chamber. What should I do?
Thanks a lot for answers!
