HCl and peroxide

to make ferric chloride u need to add an oxidant to HCl before adding iron or u only get a ferrous chloride. Nitric acid is often used but i thought id try peroxide as the oxident (u can use it i beleive with sulfuric acid when making ferric sulphate). But adding peroxide turned the HCl a deep orange instantly, before any iron was even added. Any idea what was formed?

chlorine can be different colors in different solvents.
Most Common Suggestions I Make on the Forums.
1. Start by writing a balanced chemical equation.
2. Don't confuse thermodynamic stability with chemical reactivity.
3. Forum Supports LaTex
